New Delhi, Nov 21: The iconic Mangalyan mission has reached another pinnacle. One of its pictures has bagged a place as the cover photo of the renowned Nat Geo magazine.

The image captured by MOM shows a full disk of Mars. Experts owe the selection to the availability of few such high-resolution full disk images of Mars. Over 50 missions to the Red Planet has been made in the past, but this image was considered to be stunning.

MOM

Mangalyaan or MOM is the pet project of ISRO that has already bagged many accolades from across the globe. An epitome of 'Make in India' mission by the Modi government, it is also considered to be the cheapest such project in the history of space research, costing India a mere $73 million.

Launched 2 years back on 24th September 2014, the satellite was launched with the aim of examining Mars from various angles and send information and photographs of the planet to ISRO.

Moreover, the satellite outlived its lifespan of 6 months and is still sending messages and information to ISRO for the past two years.
