All eyes are on the Prime Minister Narendra Modi who is today in Afghanistan holding crucial talks. For India the ouster of the Taliban is of key importance as it has always proved to be the stumbling block for peace in the region.

The Taliban has made its displeasure felt several times about any Indian interference in Afghanistan.

Modi's challenge to limit Pak in Kabul

In fact according to the information that the National Directorate of Security (Afghanistan's intelligence service) with India, there was a major plot by the Taliban that had been foiled.

The Taliban was said to have plotted a suicide strike at an Indian mission in Jalalabad ahead of Modi's visit, but the same had been foiled.

Challenge would be to limit Pakistan in Afghanistan:

Modi would raise a host of issues in Afghanistan and the prime concern would be the Taliban. Afghanistan has told India that it would need more support to enhance Intelligence capabilities.

Modi would assure Afghanistan that the two countries would enhance intelligence sharing.
Modi's visit also came close on the heels of a meeting being mediated by the Pakistan Army Chief General Raheel Sharrif.

At the insistence of the United States of America and China, Sharrif will get representatives of the Afghan government and the Taliban and ensure that the peace talks are resumed. The talks had broken down last July.

However what India would need to watch out for is the manner in which the ISI would use the Taliban to its advantage.

In the recent terror strikes to have hit Afghanistan, there were clear cut signs of a Lashkar-e-Tayiba interference. The ISI had approved support of the Lashkar-e-Tayiba to the Taliban.

The Lashkar-e-Tayiba has been providing both manpower and arms to the Taliban.
The concern is that both the Lashkar-e-Tayiba and the Taliban had an anti India or hate India strategy.

India would need to enhance its support to the Afghanistan government so that the Taliban is kept at bay and is rendered useless in the days to come.

Stability is crucial for both India and Afghanistan:

Modi will pitch for stability in Afghanistan which is extremely crucial for the region. The Taliban being headed by Mullah Mansoor has taken an aggressive stance against India.

Mansoor had even ordered the bombing at the Indian mission in Herat a day ahead of Modi's swearing in as Prime Minister in 2014 which was meant to send a strong message to India.

There is a desperate need to counter the Taliban and even Afghanistan realises the importance of the same.

The peace talks between the Taliban and the Afghanistan government broke off in July 2015 and since there has been chaos in the region.

India will help Afghanistan aspects pertaining to intelligence sharing. India will also provide Afghanistan will technical equipment to enhance intelligence gathering capabilities.
