Varanasi, Sep 18: Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for projects worth 500 crore rupees in his Parliamentary constituency Varanasi on Tuesday.

Addressing a gathering from the BHU's amphitheatre, Modi thanked people of Varanasi in Bhojpuri language. He said,''Varanasi is shining in the bright lights of LEDs. We are striving to develop Kashi as gateway to Poorvanchal (East UP).''

''Earlier I sued to think when Varanasi will get rid of the dangling wires. Today, they have vanished from most parts of the city. In the remaining areas, work to fix them under ground is being carried out at a fast pace,'' said PM.

''Highways connecting Varanasi with other states are being widened. International leaders and many nations have been impressed by Varanasi and its rate of development,'' said PM.

''There will be an International Kumbh Mela in Varanasi where Indians from all over the world will gather. We need to make this a huge success,'' PM Narendra Modisaid.

''Development in Varanasi under Yogi Adityanath government has been on the rise,'' the Prime Minister also said.

PM Narendra Modi cites Vikas in Infrastructure, health sectors under BJP.

''Beautification process at Buddha Theme Park, Sarang Nath Pond, Gurudham Temple, Markendeya Mahadeva Temple and other tourist hotpots has been completed. Efforts are being made to clean river Ganga from Gangotri to Ganga Sagar. Till now, schemes worth Rs 21,000 crore approximately have been approved towards cleaning of river Ganga,'' said Modi.

Modi also said,''Efforts are being made to uplift the living standard of people of Varanasi. Kashi is now one of the few cities in India where cooking gas being supplied to homes via pipeline. Efforts to provide cooking gas through pipeline to over 40,00 houses are underway.''

Among the projects inaugurated by Modi were Integrated Power Development Scheme (IPDS) for Puraani Kashi and an Atal Incubation Centre at the BHU.

The projects for which the foundation stone was laid include the Regional Ophthalmology Centre at the BHU. The event is being held at the amphitheatre of Banaras Hindu University (BHU).

On his 68th birthday, the Prime Minister arrived in the temple city on a two-day visit to his Parliamentary constituency.

Prime Minister first interacted with students of a primary school at Naraur on the outskirts of Varanasi. During his interaction with school children, Modi asked them not to be afraid of asking questions, saying it is a key aspect of learning.
