Preeti Jain who conspired to kill Madhur Bhandarkar granted bail

A sessions court in Mumbai has convicted model Preeti Jain and sentenced her to three years in jail for plotting to kill film director, Madhur Bhandarkar. The court held her and two others guilty of conspiring to kill the director who she had charged with rape a few years back. She was however granted bail on the condition that she furnish the fine amount of Rs 15,000.

It may be recalled that Preeti had accused Bhadarkar of rape. Proceedings had commenced against the director in a sessions court. The Supreme Court had in November 2012 quashed criminal proceedings against the director.

The Bench observed that since the police had given him a clean chit and the model too did not want to pursue the case. The model had alleged that the director had promised to marry her and also cast her in his films. But he went back on his promise Preeti had alleged.

Preeti is said to have paid underworld gangster Arun Gawli's aide Naresh Rs 75,000 to kill the director in 2005. The incident came to light when the same was alerted by Gawli's lawyer to the police. It was said that she had asked for a refund after Naresh had failed to kill the director.
