Jaipur, July 26: While Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath stated that "unnecessary importance is being given to mob lynching", his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) colleague in Rajasthan Madan Lal Saini claimed that when Mughal emperor Humayun was on his deathbed, he told his father, Babur, to respect cows, brahmins and women in order to continue ruling India.

"When Humayun was dying, he called Babur and told him if you want to rule Hindustan, you must keep three things in mind--respect cows, brahmins and women," the Rajasthan BJP president told reporters in Jaipur.

The whole statement is factually incorrect as Babur, Humayun's father, died in 1531--almost 25 years before Humayun breathed his last in 1556.

Saini made the statement in regard to the latest mob lynching incident in Alwar, Rajasthan where Rakbar Khan, a Muslim man, was assaulted by a Hindu mob on suspicion of cow smuggling. Later Khan, who was seriously injured, died in the police custody.

While the whole nation is aghast by the rise in mob lynching cases, the BJP is in a state of denial. According to reports at least 68 people have died across the country due to mob lynching since 2015.

"We will provide protection to everyone, but it is the responsibility of every individual, every community and every religion to respect each other sentiments. Humans are important and cows are also important. Both have their own roles in nature. Everyone should be protected," the Uttar Pradesh CM was quoted as saying by ANI.

He also blamed the Opposition for giving "unnecessary importance" to instances of mob lynching in the country.

"Law and order is a matter of the state. Congress' intention to make mountain out of a molehill won't be successful," Adityanath said.
