Miss America Nina Davuluri meets Barack Obama at the White House
"Had the pleasure of having a conversation with President Barack Obama in the Oval Office today!" Davuluri twitted shortly after meeting Obama.
"Miss America participated in a group photo with the President in honour of the Children's Miracle Network Hospital Champions," a White House official said.
"Following the photo, she briefly visited the Oval Office," the official said.
Nina Davuluri faced extreme racial abuse on social media after the pageant
Incidentally, Obama had referred to Miss America during his meeting with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh last month. "Now Miss America is of Indian-American descent. I think it's a signal of how close our countries are," Obama said in his remarks.
Davuluri became the first Indian-American ever to be crowned as Miss America in September. "I'm so proud to be the first Miss America of Indian descent,” she said after winning the pageant. But shortly after winning the pageant, she was racially abused on social media.
