MHA directs NIA to take up probe of PETN found in UP Assembly
The Ministry of Home Affairs has directed the National Investigative Agency to take up the investigation of explosive chemical PETN being found in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
Reports say that NIA is now re-registering the case at its Lucknow Branch Office and begin the probe soon.
Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath had on July 14 confirmed that the suspicious white found in the state assembly was Pentaerythritol Tetranitrate or PETN, one of the most dangerous plastic explosives.
CM Adityanath had then called for an NIA investigation.
PETN is not something that is available off-the-shelf or a chemical that can be manufactured in the backyard. The main ingredients needed to manufacture PETN are Pentaerythritol and Nitric acid, which can be procured as these chemicals find uses in other manufacturing processes as well. But, the process involved in PETN production is quite complex and needs an eloborate setup.
