Mumbai, Nov 19: CBFC chief and filmmaker Pahlaj Nihalani has come in the eye of storm over his being acting as a BJP spokesperson.

Recently, Nihalani came up with a video "Mera Desh Hai Mahaan, Mera Desh Hai Jawaan", dedicated to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, that is in news for all the wrong reasons.

The newly-launched 7-minute video on PM Modi is reportedly being broadcast on several cinema halls, during the interview. The video starts with schoolchildren cheering "Modi Kaka".

However, Twitterati has slammed the video (that looks like a spoof) and Nihalani for depicting the visuals of foreign locations, infrastructure, and programmes.

Surprisingly, visuals of the Tour De France, the International Space Shuttle, Moscow's International Business Centre and the Dubai Expressway are shown in a montage as glimpses of PM Modi's India, "Mera Desh Hai Mahaan, Mera Desh Hai Jawaan" patriotic song.

While justifying his stand, the unapologetic Nihalani told a news channel, ""Images of developed countries have been used to show visions of Modi's new India. If this is chamchagiri (sycophancy) then I am proud of it."

"Once there was Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru who was called 'Nehru Chacha'. Now children want to see a 'Modi Kaka'. I'm very happy I could do this through this song", he further stated.

Nihalani also said that last year, he had written to PM Modi to set up a "Modi Kaka Bal Divas award".

Now, Nihalani's next project is to make a short film on the 'failure of FTII', in which he reportedly plans to show the institute's students as "anti-national". FTII students launched massive protests on the appointment of the BJP member Gajendra Chauhan as the institute's chairman.

FTII students on Tuesday branded censor board chairman Pahlaj Nihalani as the "propaganda machine" of the BJP-led government and urged Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to seek his resignation.

During 2014 Lok Sabha elections, he had made 'Har Ghar Modi' video to reach out to Varanasi people, from where Modi contested against AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal and emerged as a winner.

In January 2015, Nihalani was appointed as chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) in an honorary capacity for a period of three years or until further orders.

Nihalani is the elder brother of renowned director Govind Nihalani, has produced films like "Aankhen", "Talaash: The Hunt Begins..." and "Shola Aur Shabnam".
