Meat shops vandalised in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras
Even as BJP government began its crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh, a mob set several meat shops in UP's Hathras ablaze on Tuesday night. Suspected cow vigilantes set shops on fire and indulged in vandalism but police claim that no complaints have been filed so far in this regard.

The incident comes three days after Yogi Adityanath took over as the chief minister of the state and authorities started shutting down illegal slaughterhouses. While the government has made it clear only illegal slaughterhouses will be shut, suspected cow vigilantes have already started running amok. The local police have claimed that no complaints have been registered against the incident and action will be initiated if anyone comes forward to register a case.
Meanwhile, civic authorities continued to issue notices and shut more illegal slaughterhouses across the state. Close to 20 meat shops were also shut down in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. The police have been asked to keep strict vigil against cattle smuggling apart from identifying illegal slaughterhouses and meat shops.
