MEA receives extradition request from CBI for Mehul Choksi
New Delhi, Aug 3: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has reportedly received extradition request for fugitive businessman Mehul Choksi and the ministry is in the process of forwarding it to authorities in Antigua. Choksi took citizenship in Antigua in November last year.
Earlier today, the Citizenship by Investment Unit (CIU) of Antigua had stated that Choksi was considered a "fit and proper candidate" for citizenship after Indian government agencies cleared him last year and said there was "no adverse information" against him.
After getting Antiguan passport, Choksi had fled India on January 4 this year and took oath of allegiance in Antigua on January 15, 2018.
The CBI got confirmation from the authorities in Antigua that Choksi is in their country. Further CBI sources earlier told OneIndia that the extradition process would begin soon.
