Me, not Advani provoked kar sevaks to raze Babri Masjid, claims former BJP MP Vedanti
Vedanti said Advani had tried to persuade the kar sevaks to move away from the Mosque on December 6, 1992.
With the Supreme Court ordering trial against L K Advani, Muri Manohar and others in the Bari Masjid demolition case, former BJP MP Ram Vilas Vedanti, also an accused in the case, on Friday claimed that it he who ensured that the disputed structure was razed.
Vedanti said he provoked the kar sevaks to pull down the disputed Mosque, adding that he was prepared to be "hanged" for the cause of Ram temple, said reports.
Vedanti said Advani or the senior BJP leaders had nothing to do with the demolition as it was he along with late Ashok Singhal, then VHP chief, and Mahant Avaidyanath of Gorakhnath Temple exhorted activists to ensure that the structure was pulled down. Both Avaidyanath and Singhal are now dead.
He said Advani and Joshi, in fact, tried to persuade the kar sevaks to come down from top of the structure on December 6, 1992.
It need to be noted that Advani's former aide Sudheendra Kulkarni on Thursday said that the senior BJP leader had appealed to kar sevaks to stop Mosque's demolition.
"The case of criminal conspiracy against Advani is baseless. He was not a part of the conspiracy at all. In fact, he expressed deep regret at what happened and wrote soon after the Babri demolition that it was the saddest day of his life," Kulkarni told PTI on Thursday.
Vedanti is one of the 13 people accused by the Central Bureau of Investigation in the conspiracy in the demolition of Babri Masjid.
The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed an appeal by the Central Bureau of Investigation which challenged the dropping of charges against them. The court said that there would be no fresh trial in the case.

The SC ordered that the trial would be conducted in both Lucknow and Rae Bareli. The trial would be conducted on a day-to-day basis, the court also ruled.
The SC pointed out that a 25-year pendency in this case was 'evasion of justice,' while stating that it would direct the Lucknow court to complete the trial in two years while ordering a day to day hearing.
