Marriages fixed on Facebook fail says Gujarat HC
Marriages fixed on Facebook are bound to fail, the Gujarat High Court has observed. The court was hearing a case in which the lady accused her husband of domestic violence.
The couple following courtship on Facebook got married. However they ended up arguing soon after the marriage. The court advised them settle the dispute and consent to a divorce so that they could explore future avenues in life.
The couple met on February 28 2015. There were problems within two months of the marriage. The women then left for her matrimonial home and accused her husband and in-laws of demanding dowry. She even filed a case to this effect.
The in-laws then approached the Gujarat High Court to quash the charges. The court while hearing the plea observed, " this is one of those modern marriages fixed on Facebook, an is therefore bound to fail."
I am of the view that the parties should explore the possibility of a settlement and put an end to the marriage with consent. Both sides are young. Once the marriage is dissolved, they can think about their future avenues in life," the court also observed. The court also quashed the charges against the in-laws while observing that the allegations were mainly directed at the husband.
