Manipur attack: NIA gets custody of top NSCN(K) leader

Imphal, June 29: Khumlo Abi Anal, a top leader of the NSCN (Khaplang) alleged to be involved in the Manipur attack in which 18 soldiers was taken into custody by the National Investigating Agency today (NIA).

He was arrested from the Chandel district of Manipur.

Anal (40) who also goes by the name Ambition, according to the NIA was involved in the conspiracy that led up to the June 4th attack in Manipur in which army personnel were killed.

Anal who was first arrested by the Imphal police was first questioned and handed over to the NIA after his identy had been ascertained.

Who is Anal alias Ambition:

Anal is the regional chairman of the NSCN (K). He along with his accomplices was at Chandel and were finding a suitable time to slip out of the country. However the police were alerted about their movements and managed to arrest them.

The NIA which has been handed over the Manipur ambush case will question Anal to get more leads relating to the conspiracy behind the attack. He will also be probed by the military wing of the army who will seek more details regarding the attack from him.

NIA officials say that he is a big catch and was part of the top rung of the leadership of the NSCN(K). He hails from the Lambung village in Chandel district and is the chairman of the Amamchat region of the NSCN(K).

His association with the Chandel district wing of the NSCN(K) is a clear indicator that he was the one who laid out the logistics for the attack.
