Mamata reinstates Kolkata top cop who was removed by EC
Kolkata, May 22: Two days after she led her Trinamool Congress (TMC) register a historic win in the Assembly election, West Bengal's chief minister-designate Mamata Banerjee reinstated Rajiv Kumar as the police commissioner of the state capital.
In a notification issued by Nabanna---the state secretariat---on Saturday (May 21), Kumar was made the Kolkata Police chief and he replaced Soumen Mitra, who was transferred as the ADG Training, West Bengal Police.
Kumar was removed by the Election Commission (EC) on charges of acting in favour of the ruling party. The EC also shifted several administrative and police officers after all the Opposition---the Congress, Left and BJP---had approached it with complaints of baised discharge of duties.
