Mamata Banerjee makes bizarre allegation against BJP, says they will spread COVID-19 in West Bengal

Kolkata, Apr 14: With just a day after the Election Commission of India's ban for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has claimed that the BJP 'was spreading COVID-19 in the state'.

Addressing a rally in Dabgram-Fulbari in the Jalpaiguri district, Banerjee said that the BJP will 'not even get 70 seats in West Bengal'.

"These people will spread COVID in the state and then go away. Last year when COVID-19 was in spate, none of the BJP leaders cared to the come to the state", she said.

"Prime Minister Modi has said the saffron party has already won 100 seats out of 135 seats where elections have been held. I can say that after the elections are over, BJP will not even get 70 out of a total of 294 seats," the TMC chief said during her speech.

Earlier, PM Modi had said that the BJP had already won 100 seats in the four phases of the election to the 294-seat assembly. Previously, BJP has claimed that the party will win over 200 seats in the 294-seater Assembly and oust the ten-year rule of the TMC. The TMC, on the contrary, has claimed that the BJP will not be able to cross the double-digit mark in the polls.

Mamata Banerjee also launched a scathing attack on the BJP over the implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and reiterated that her party will not allow the implementation of NRC in the state.

Responding to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's assurance that NRC will be implemented in West Bengal, Banerjee said, "All of you are citizens. My only request to people is that they cast their votes."
