Maj Akshay Girish martyred at Nagrota was a proud soldier

"His brilliant life had to come to an end like this, but I am so proud because he did this for the country. He was always a proud soldier" were the words of Maj Akshay Girish's friend soon after she heard of his martyrdom.

Happy pictures of him spending diwali with family earlier this year still hangs on his kin's social media timeline. Friends still recall the last time they met Maj Akshay and the conversations they had. Martyred at Nagrota, the 31 year old Major wanted nothing more than being in the army.

"Akshay always said he was a proud man,he was in the army and asked what I was doing today? If simply eating Pani puri?", added Amulya, Maj Akshay's friend in her video tribute to the hero.

In 2003, Maj Akshay Girish was offered admissions into Jain College, one of the prestigious insitutions in Bengaluru. Within a span of 6 months he left it all behind simply because his calling had finally come. National Defence Academy awaited Maj Akshay Girish. From then on there was no looking back.

5 years ago Maj Akshay Girish married his childhood friend, Sangeetha. He leaves behind with her their 2 and a half year old daughter, Naina. A hero in true words, condolences and salutes poured in for a soul that couldn't think beyond the army.
