Maintain peace, Haryana CM Khattar appeals to Dera followers
Chandigarh, Aug 28 : Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday appealed to Dera people to maintain peace after the self-styled Godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh was sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment.
Addressing a press conference, the CM appealed to Dera followers to main peace. He urged the followers not to take the law into their hands.
Singh's followers had went on a rampage on Friday and attacked journalists, police and even damaged vehicles and public properties after the conviction of their leader in a rape case.
Soon after Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was sentenced to ten years of imprisonment by the Special CBI Court of Panchkula, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar called for an emergency meeting at his residence.
Senior officials of the state including party leaders and ministers attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has appealed for peace and said that the sentence must be accepted by all.
Rape convict Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singhwas on Monday sentenced to 20 years in jail by a special CBI court.
CBI Judge Jagdeep Singh pronounced two sentences of 10 years rigorous imprisonment in each of the two cases that date back to 2002, said defence lawyer S K Garg Narwana.
