Madurai alone has 75 persons playing the Blue Whale Challenge
With the menace reaching a towering high, a special cell has been constituted to counsel those who have fallen trap to this game.
The Madurai police have identified at least 75 persons involved in the Blue Whale Challenge. The details came to light after the police scanned the data that was retrieved from the phone of 19 year old Vignesh who had hung himself as part of the last challenge of the game.
The 19-year-old college student from Mottamalai near Vilachery had hung himself to death to fulfil the last challenge posed by the controversial Blue Whale challenge on Wednesday. A special team of the Madurai police has been formed to probe this game.
Superintendent of Police N Manivannan said that data from Vignesh's phone revealed a WhatsApp group of 75 members, who were allegedly playing the game and initiating gullible people to follow suit.
He also said that Vignesh had been playing the game for the past 50 days. The data that we retrieved from his phone came in handy in identifying the others playing the game, the officer added.
