Datia, Oct 14: As the death toll in the stampede near a famous Madhya Pradesh temple rose to 115, Congress has demanded that the BJP's Shivraj Singh Chouhan step down as Chief Minister of the election-bound state.

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh has alleged that the police took bribes to let vehicles the bridge where the stampede took place. "Reason for Ratangarh Mata disaster? Police was charging Rs. 200 from each tractor and allowing in no traffic zone. Good Governance in MP?" he tweeted.

The party has blamed the state's police and the administration for the stampede, triggered by the rumour that a bridge across the Sindh river, which devotees were crossing to reach the famous Ratangarh temple in Datia, was about to collapse.
