LK Advani misses first half of BJP-RSS crucial meeting in Delhi

New Delhi, Sept 8: As the crucial Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) meeting in the national capital Delhi reached underway, the party's veteran leader, LK Advani missed the first half of the meet on Sunday.

According to reports, Advani preferred a release of a book launch over the high-level ‘Samanvay Baithak' coordination meeting.

The decisive meeting is expected to build a consensus on the prime ministerial candidate for the general elections 2014.

Meanwhile, the meeting, that is underway, is being attended by 65 leaders including 25 from the RSS and 12 from the BJP.

Narendra Modi is reportedly the only chief minister attending the high-level meeting.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar are also expected to join meeting.

Sources said that BJP president Rajnath Singh is keen on announcing Gujarat chief minister and the BJP poll panel chief Narendra Modi as the formal choice of the prime ministerial candidate for the upcoming general elections.

Narendra Modi is the only chief minister attending the high-level meeting.

Both BJP leaders LK Advani and Sushma Swaraj have so far been reluctant to relax their reservations about declaring Narendra Modi as BJP's PM choice at this point of time.

However, in the event of Modi being declared as the party's candidate, Advani and his supporters want the decision to be postponed till the end of the year.

A day before the crucial conclave, Narendra Modi met the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat at the RSS headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday night. Bhagwat has been strongly supporting for Modi's appointment as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate.

The high-level co-ordination meeting is expected to discuss the situation in several states ahead of the upcoming Assembly Elections.
