Let This Holi Be All About Bringing Colours In The Lives Of The Less Fortunate

Google Oneindia News

Holi is the festival of colours, joy and spreading happiness in the lives of others. But should this love be limited to your acquaintances only? Isn't every human being in the world equally deserving of enjoying the bounties of life? Unfortunately, not many are blessed with a roof above their heads and three meals a day.

Holi is a very colourful festival. You can see the explosion or colours everywhere, be it on streets, buildings, footpaths or even vehicles. Nothing is spared. People from across communities and religion enjoy the festival of colours together. But do we ever spare a thought on those who are less fortunate?

How often do we see small children begging on the streets or working at menial jobs as labourers at construction sites? Covered in tattered clothes and dust, do the gleams of hopes in their eyes ever manage to steer the very core of your conscious? If so, you can help make a difference in their lives by donating for a good cause.

Mukesh & Prema work as a daily wage labourer and a domestic help respectively, with two kids. All of them have to earn and contribute to household expenses if they want to eat at least two meals a day. Under such extreme circumstances, the kids grow up beyond their age and undertake odd jobs to support themselves and their parents. Their education definitely takes a backseat. This is the primary reason for illiteracy among the economically backward people in the society.

What according to you would be the best way for them to improve the standard of living of these people? Through education, of course. But the household income would decline sharply if the kids give up their jobs and go to school. This is where social welfare organisations like Annamrita step up.

We are born with a privilege of good food, education and the love and care from your loved ones, but there are millions of people out there who are deprived of even the basic necessities in their lives. People at Annamrita strive to create a world filled with literate people who can make a difference to society.

Annamrita is an institution with a goal of providing quality education to the people who are at the poorer end of the economic scale. The organisation aims at providing free meals to its students, something that largely attracts the children of the backward classes. The programme stresses on educating the children as they understand that education is the only way out of poverty for them.

People like Mukesh and Prema have a chance of improving their standard of living through the help of organisations like Annamrita. Due to this, they can send their kids to school, without the worry of feeding them with healthy meals. But these organisations cannot work without your support. So let us strive to contribute to make the world a better and happier place for Mukesh and Prema's family and millions of other underprivileged kids who require our love and support.

So this Holi, let us pledge to give happiness not only to our loved ones, but to all the people in the society who need our love and support. Even a small donation from your side can change the lives of these kids. So, the next time you buy a big box of sweets or other items to celebrate the festival of Holi, just think of the countless number of kids around you who do not know where their next meal is going to come from. Making donations will not only help them secure an education, but it will also make you contribute towards a society that is free from literacy and poverty, drop by drop.
