After daughter's suicide, Asha Bhosle's son dies; Lata Mangeshkar's b'day celebration cancelled


Mumbai, Sept 29: Hemant Bhosle, second son of famous veteran singer Asha Bhosle passed away on Sunday, Sept 27.

66-year-old Hemant, a music composer, was diagnosed with cancer. He died at his home in Scotland where he was settled since last five years.

Asha Bhosle received the tragic news when she was in Singapore and was preparing to leave for Mumbai to attend the planned birthday celebration of her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar.

A grand birthday celebration was planned for the Bharat Ratna nightingale who turned 87 on Monday, Sept 28. However, the party has been called off following the news of Hemant's demise.

A close source of the Bhosle family was quoted as saying, "Both Lata didi and Asha tai met quietly, held hands, consoling each other. On Sunday, even as she packed her bags to leave from Singapore for Mumbai, came this news."

Asha Bhosle lost her son three years after her daughter's sudden tragic death. Her daughter Varsha Bhosle committed suicide in 2012.

Varsha was suffering from depression and was under psychiatric treatment for the same. Varsha allegedly had tried to end her life thrice since her divorce from her sports-columnist husband in 1998.
