Thiruvananthapuram, May 2: On Tuesday, when the whole world observed the International Workers' Day or International Labour Day or May Day, a top official from Kerala decided to step out of the office and be a part of the working class to understand the "ground realities".

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) managing director TJ Thachankary donned the uniform of a conductor and travelled in a long distance bus from Thiruvananthapuram to Guruvayoor issuing tickets to passengers.

"Trivandrum: On #MayDay Kerala State Transport Corporation MD TJ Thachankary works as bus conductor, says 'Until the time I don't know the work they do how can I lead them? It'll also give me an opportunity to interact with commuters' #Kerala," tweeted ANI.

Thachankary decided to be a bus conductor to understand every wing of the loss-making state-owned corporation so that he can unveil strategies to bring it out of the red, stated a report by IANS.

"The key area of my corporation is handled by drivers and conductors who number about 32,000. Hence, I thought I will take a conductor's job," Thachankary was quoted as saying by IANS.

The commuters definitely welcomed the gesture of the top official. The travellers were surprised and impressed by the effort taken by the top official. "I will soon turn a driver. I have already applied for the license," he added.

Thachankary took over the charge of KSRTC MD only two weeks ago. He is also the Additional Director General of Police.
