J&K: One terrorist killed by security forces in Kulgam encounter
One terrorist was killed by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district on Tuesday. A gunfight was reported to be underway between security forces and militants in south Kashmir's Tral district as well. According to latest report a jawan also lost his life while a policeman was injured.
The forces cordoned a section of Tral after reports of the presence of militants, following which the encounter ensued.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Nowbug Kund village in Qazigund area of Kulgam this morning after receiving specific information about the presence of militants in the area, a police spokesman said.
As the forces were conducting the searches, the militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter, he said. The firing was going on when last reports came in, the spokesman said.
He said another encounter broke out in Laam village of Tral in Awantipora area of Pulwama after the militants fired upon a search party of security forces.
This comes a day after two unidentified militants were gunned down by security forces in Handwara.
