Kolkata gangrape: Victim's family vows to continue fight for justice
Kolkata, Jan 1: The family of the 16-year-old gangrape victim, who succumbed to burn injuries today in Kolkata, said that they will continue their fight for justice. The family members met West Bengal governor and demanded security for themselves.

"Where was the government when my daughter was dying?", asked the victim's aggrieved father, who has filed a complaint against West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, who handles health portfolio, for medical negligence. The girl's mother has demanded death penalty for all the accused in the case. Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress government said that they have nabbed all the accused.

The girl, who was gangraped by 6 men on Oct 25, set herself ablaze on Dec 23 as she couldn't bear the social humiliation and repeated taunts and threats by the accused.

The girl's body was taken to the CITU office on Wednesday morning, from where Left organisation members held a protest march. Reportedly, the girl's father a taxi driver and member of the CPM trade union - the Centre of Indian Trade Unions or CITU - wanted to cremate the girl's body only after carrying it in a protest procession. The body was sent for cremation at 2 pm.

Major protests have erupted in Kolkata over the victim's death, putting TMC government in pressure.
