Kerala: Mohan Bhagwat defies state order, hoists tricolour at Palakkad school
Defying the state order, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohn Bhagwat unfurled the Tricolour at a Kerala school on Republic day for the second time in six months.
Kerala government ahead of Republic Day in 2017 had issued an order apparently in a bid to prevent RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat from hoisting the national flag at a school in Palakkad.
Earlier, Bhagwat's Independence Day act at Palakkad's Karnakayamman Higher Secondary School had invited a notice from Kerala's Left government accusing the institution of violating state guidelines by letting an outsider hoist the flag.
The RSS has a considerable presence in Kerala, where the BJP is seeking to make inroads. Last year, BJP chief Amit Shah had flagged off his Janraksha Yatra in Kerala to protest against alleged violence against its workers in the state.
The state has been witnessing incidents of political violence involving cadres of the ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) and the RSS.
