The Supreme Court on Wednesday refused to adjourn the Kerala love jihad case hearing involving Hadiya scheduled for Thursday. Hadiya's father had requested the Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra to defer Thursday's hearing, but the court did not accept the petition.

Kerala love jihad: SC refuse to defer hearing

Earlier on Tuesday, Hadiya had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating that she is a Muslim and wanted to remain as a Muslim. She also stated that she wanted to remain the wife of Shafi Jahan. Hadiya was known as Akhila Ashokan before she converted.

In the affidavit Hadiya has categorically stated that she embraced Islam and married to Shafin Jahan on her own free will.

She also stated that baseless and malicious propaganda was made by the investigating agency and by the evil forces that she was mentally not sound, and she had connection with IS.

Six months after directing NIA probe in Kerala love jihad case, the Supreme Court on Tuesday said that it would not rely on investigation report on larger conspiracy to decide the legality of marriage of Hadiya with Shafin Jahan as both are adults and their decision of getting into relationship could not be examined by court or any probe agency.

Born Akhila, the girl converted to Islam and married Jahan while still studying. Her father had opposed her marriage and the NIA is probing the case of 'Love Jihad' in Kerala.
