Kerala collector who barred Bhagwat from hoisting Tricolour transferred
The memo added that only "a teacher or elected representative of the people" can hoist the flag.
The Palakkad collector who had barred RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat from hoisting the National Flag on Independence Day has been transferred. It was may be recalled that was restrained from hoisting the Tricolour at a school in Kerala.
The Kerala administration however maintained that the transfer was not a result of the Bhagwat incident. It is a routine transfer the administration maintained.
Bhagwat on Independence Day was barred from hoisting the National Flag. He however went ahead and unfurled the Tricolour.
The restraining order was passed by the district collector. The BJP has challenged this decision. The Palakkad District Collector issued a memo to the Karnakkiyamman School, which said, "It is inappropriate for a political leader to hoist national flag in an aided school."
The memo added that only "a teacher or elected representative of the people" can hoist the flag. The BJP however insists that the RSS chief will hoist the flag.
The decision is likely to spark some debate. There is already palpable tension in the state between the BJP and the Left cadres. The state has incidents several incidents of violence in the past couple of years.
