Kerala: Activist Rahul Easwar attacked for not supporting beef festival
Alappuzha, Oct 8: Renowned author and activist Rahul Easwar was on Thursday, Oct 8 manhandled and his car was vandalised by some college students of Milad E Sherif Memorial (MSM) College in Kayamkulam in Alappuzha district of Kerala.
The unprecedented incident happened around 11.30 am.
While talking to The News Minute, Rahul said, "I went there to take a class. When I came out around 30 students blocked me and shouted that I have to support beef fests in Kerala campuses. I said I won't do that and they flanked me. They started slogans and then vandalised my car. I have the right to support or not support the beef fest. Forcing someone to support this fest is also a cultural fascism. They tried to physically assault me."
Shocked Easwar shared a pic of his smashed car on Facebook and Twitter. He filed a case with Kollam police.
He tweeted, "Attack on me & Car got smashed..raising slogans for Beef Festival in Kerala. DYSP Police registers FIR."
"I am shocked and scared.. can one not live in Kerala without supporting Beef Festival ?? Attackers shouted that they will only let me go if I support beef festival and cow slaughter. is this not left wing fascism ??", he said in another tweet.
Meanwhile, the college authorities issued an apology to Rahul Easwar. Police has detained at least 15 students in connection with the incident.
