Karunanidhi turns 95: People gather outside his residence to celebrate
As DMK president M Karunanidhi turned 95 on Sunday, DMK workers and supporters gathered outside his residence in Gopalapuram in Chennai to celebrate. The party supremo's residence was house has been decked up with flowers and hoardings featuring him and his son, DMK working president MK Stalin.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to wish the DMK leader. "Best wishes to Kalaignar M.Karunanidhi Ji on his birthday. A prolific writer, poet, thinker and orator, Karunanidhi Ji is one of India's senior-most political leaders. May he be blessed with a long and healthy life," he wrote.
Congress chief Rahul Gandhi on Twitter wrote, "I would like to wish Shri Karunanidhi ji a very happy birthday! I pray for his good health and happiness, always."
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee took to Twitter this morning to wish him. "Warmest birthday greetings to M Karunanidhi @kalaignar89 Ji. I pray for your good health and happiness," she said. Newly elected Chief Minister of Karnataka, HD Kumaraswamy also extended his wishes to Karunanidhi on Twitter.
It is also learnt that the DMK party's IT wing will soon be uploading videos on social media to show the party patriarch's achievements since he became a PWD minister in C N Annadurai's government in 1967.
