Karnataka rains: Kumaraswamy demands Rs 100 cr relief for Kodagu
Bengaluru, Aug 20: With heavy rains, floods and landslides having left a trail destruction in Karnataka's Kodagu (Coorg) district, Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy said that he would request the Centre to grant Rs 100 crore relief to restore the rain hit district.
Data provided by the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) shows that Kodagu has been the worst affected among Karnataka's 30 districts, recording 237% excess rainfall in the past week and 46% this monsoon. The district received an average of 535 mm rainfall against the normal of 159 mm over this period, said reports.

"PM has announced relief of Rs 500 Crore for Kerala, we expect at least Rs 100 Crore for Kodagu. We will request central govt for it. We have to repair roads for connectivity. We are taking help of the Army and NDRF..We conducted an aerial survey in Kodagu to review the flood situation. In all, 12 people have lost their lives. 845 houses have been damaged out of which 773 houses are partially damaged," Kumaraswamy said.

Kumaraswamy addressed the media on Monday after reviewing the situation in Kodagu.
"Around 845 houses have been destroyed, 123km roads are damaged, 58 bridges, 28 government offices, 3,800 electric polls have broken down. Our officers are working round-the-clock to ensure situation comes under control," he said.
