Karnataka rains: Kodagu-Mangalore highway roads blocked, 5 districts on high alert
Bengaluru, Aug 17: The Kodagu-Mangalore highway roads have been blocked on Friday in Makanur area due to multiple landslides triggered due to heavy incessant rainfall in the region. At least three persons are confirmed dead and two others feared dead in Virajpet and Madikeri taluks of Kodagu district.

On Thursday, between 8.30 am and 8.30 pm, about 60-70 mm rainfall was recorded in Kodagu district with showers forecast to continue in the night. Rail connectivity too is affected and speed posts were transferred by air.
Relief camps set up to provide shelter and food to people
Kodagu district received heavy rainfall, and rescue operations are underway in several places in the district including Hattihole village. Relief camps or 'ganji centres' have been set up to provide shelter and food to people.

Landslide hit Chikkenduru near Madikeri after heavy rainfall hit the region. Road clearing operations underway. Locals said 'it is not possible to move, people are stuck in their houses, I have not seen such rainfall before'.
5 districts on high alert
Meanwhile, Kodagu, Dakshina Kannada, Hassan, Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and Udupi districts are on high alert.
Highway between Sullia, Madikeri shut
The highway between Sullia and Madikeri was shut after landslides were reported along the route. Damage to property was reported in Subramanya, Kollamogru and Puttur in Dakshina Kannada.
