Karnataka professor keeps his word, promotes Punjabi in Chandigarh
Professor Pandit Rao Dharennavar, a 46-year-old is making efforts to promote promote Punjabi language in Chandigarh.
Rao is originally from Karnataka but moved to Chandigarh in 2003. He is a professor in sociology at Post Graduate Government College in Sector 46.
It was his self-motivation that Rao started learning Punjabi. After learning it, he started developing an interest in Punjabi songs and Punjabi culture too. Rao is the only person to have volunteered to teach Punjabi in government schools.
During his spare time, Rao takes out his bicycle and goes to PGI doctors' canteen and teach them Punjabi thinking that it would be helpful for them when they interact with the patients. He has also written eight books in Punjabi and has translated Sri Jap Ji Saheb and Sri Sukhmani Saheb books into Kannada.
Rao has also taught the students about the importance of Punjabi language and why each student should make it as a career option.
