H D Kumaraswamy won the trust won in Karnataka with the help of the Congress. Moments before the trust vote was taken, B S Yeddyurappa made a powerful speech before storming out of the House with the BJP MLAs.

D K Shivakumar the go to man for the Congress is reportedly unhappy about being denied the post of deputy CM. In fact when Rahul Gandhi had visited Bengaluru to attend the swearing in ceremony, he held a meeting with Shivakumar and told him that the party recognised his contribution.

Dr. G Parameshwar, the deputy CM of Karnataka has left everyone guessing. Amidst talk of how long the JD(S)-Congress combine would survive, he said that no decision has been taken on whether the Congress would support the JD(S) for a full five year term. His statement gives the indication that the Congress is likely to seek a term sharing arrangement once the deliberations on the portfolios are complete. After the results were declared on May 15, the Congress offered unconditional support to the JD(S). It even said that it would support H D Kumaraswamy for a full term.

The JD(S)-Congress is taking no chances. All its MLAs continue to be holed up in a hotel/resort. Requests made by them to go home have been turned down. They have been told that they could return to their respective constituencies once the floor test is completed. The two parties fear that their MLAs could be poached by the BJP which is just 8 short of the magic number of 112 in the 222 member House.

The BJP decided to spruce things up by announcing Suresh Kumar, the former law minister as its candidate for Speaker. This means that there would be a Speaker election before the trust vote is taken. He is up against Ramesh Kumar of the Congress. The Speaker election will give the general impression about the support both sides have in the floor of the House.

H D Kumaraswamy who took oath as the Chief Minister of Karnataka faces a crucial floor test today. The CM appeared confident of clearing the test as the Congress-JD(S) coalition has the required numbers. Will there be drama on the floor of the House? H D Kumaraswamy will take a call on whether to field a candidate of the JD(S) for the RR Nagar election or not. The Congress wants the JD(S) to back its candidate. A meeting of the two parties remained inconclusive. Kumaraswamy will take a call after the trust vote is over today.

Kumaraswamy will expand his council of ministers after the trust vote on Friday which he is expected to win smoothly. The Congress, which has 78 MLAs, is likely to get 20 ministerial berths and the JD(S) with 37 lawmakers 12.

The BJP which is now holding its legislature party meeting has thrown a challenge at the Congress-JD(S) combine, by fielding its candidate for Speaker. Suresh Kumar of the BJP will take on Ramesh Kumar of the Congress. The Speaker election would be a pre-cursor to what the final floor test would be.

The Congress MLAs have reached Vidhan Soudha ahead of the floor test. They were holed up in a hotel and held a meeting before they left for the Legislative Assembly. The proceedings in the assembly would begin at 12.15 pm.
