Bengaluru, April 25: When politicians cutting across party lines forget to attack each other with "sensational" allegations in poll-bound Karnataka, it's their social media "warriors" who are doing the 'job' on behalf of their leaders with more vim and vigour.

On Tuesday, the Bharatiya Janata Party's social media cell decided to come up with a list of "fake promises" made by incumbent chief minister Siddaramaiah. Till the time of filing this report, only two of the "failed" promises made by the incumbent Congress government had been listed by the BJP on Twitter.

Siddaramaiah

"NOT DELIVERED AS PROMISED - No. 1 ➡️PROMISE: To provide Rs 50,000 crores to Krishna Basin Irrigation Projects. ➡️STATUS: Not Fulfilled ❌ ನುಡಿದಂತೆ ನಡೆಯದ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರ Empty Promises - Full Pockets of Congress #LiarSiddu," tweeted BJP.

"NOT DELIVERED AS PROMISED - No. 2➡️PROMISE: To provide a house for every single family in the state. ➡️STATUS: Not Fulfilled ❌ ನುಡಿದಂತೆ ನಡೆಯದ ಕಾಂಗ್ರೆಸ್ ಸರ್ಕಾರ Empty Promises - Full Pockets of Congress #LiarSiddu," tweeted BJP.

The hard-hitting allegations made by the BJP are yet to be refuted by the Congress. Earlier, the social media cell of BJP in Karnataka has called Siddaramaiah as "jihadi Siddu" for the deaths of "only Hindus during communal clashes in the state".

Now, the BJP is calling the CM as "#LiarSiddu". It is not just the BJP which is trying to outsmart the Congress online. The social media cell of the Congress too has hit the BJP hard for giving tickets to a host of relatives of Bellary's tainted mining baron Janardhana Reddy on Twitter.

The allegations and counter allegations of both the parties on social media are surely going to continue till polling date (well, it might continue after that too) and keep us amused. However, what is worrying is the nature of the language used by those manning the official Twitter and Facebook accounts of both the BJP and the Congress.

Probably, they have forgotten that one can speak loud and clear without being foul. But then, who cares about civilised conversations when sane voices are lost over the current political din in the country.

The elections to the 224-member Assembly in Karnataka are scheduled on May 12. The results will be declared on May 15.
