Karnataka elections: 8 VVPAT machines found from a labourer's house in Bengaluru

As many as eight Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VPPATs) boxes were found in a shed at Vijayapura on Sunday. Karnataka police have seized 8 VVPATs without batteries from the house of a labourer in Vijayapura.

Among eight VVPATs few were opened and along with that boxes were also found in a roadside shed, where the daily wage workers take shelter.

The people soon informed the local police, on the call the police rushed to the spot and inspected the VVPATs.

Speaking to reporters the Police said, "We have seized eight VVPATs without batteries from the house of a labourer in Vijayapura. A case has been registered; investigation will be conducted."

"Eight covers of VVPATs were found from a shed in Vijayapura district. Labourers were using the cover as box to keep their clothes. Deputy commissioner is on the spot and we are verifying further facts. There is no machine there," said the Chief Election Officer, Karnataka was quoted saying by ANI.

During the Karnataka Assembly elections on May 12, the Chief Electoral Officer had announced re-election in the Lottegollahalli in Hebbal Assembly segment due to faulty ballot unit.
