Veteran politician S M Krishna marked his first outing as a Bharatiya Janata Party leader on Monday. After 40 years of his association with the Congress, Krishna sought votes for a party that he had contested against all his years in politics so far.

Karnataka bypolls: S M Krishna's first outing as a BJP man

Krishna who began his campaigning for the BJP ahead of the bypoll on Monday took part in rallies in Gundlupet and Nanjangud. While the campaign was a scheduled one-day affair, his presence boosted the morale of the party workers. The Congress, on its part, has taken the bypoll as a challenge ahead of the 2019 assembly polls. With their target not being limited to winning both the seats but also to 'teach a lesson' to the likes of Srinivas Prasad and Krishna who deserted the party.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is leading the campaign from the front with his entire cabinet working to woo voters. While the Congress maintains that Krishna's presence makes absolutely no difference to voters, the BJP claimed that Monday's gathering at a rally in Gundlupet was the biggest ever. BJP claimed that the gathering was well over 10,000 and perhaps the biggest in two decades for a party's rally. While the Congress banked on its cabinet ministers, the BJP brought in its union ministers for campaigning.

Krishna campaigned for the BJP alongside B S Yeddyurappa, Jagadish Shettar, Sadananda Gowda, Prahlad Joshi, Srinivas Prasad, Shobha Karandlaje etc.
