Karnataka Budget 2018: What minorities get for education,welfare from Siddaramaiah's budget?

A grant of Rs.1 crore to commence a comprehensive information resources portal for women to communicate essential information.

With assembly elections round the corner, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presented four-hour long Budget on Friday. This is Congress government's last budget before the polls and Siddaramaiah's 13th as Finance Minister. Siddaramaiah began his speech after the Supreme Court verdict on Cauvery water dispute. The chief minister has announced financial support for minorities over all development.

Karnataka Budget 2018: What minorities get for education, welfare and development?
  • A new scheme to provide loan and subsidy under the Professional Incentive Scheme of Minority Development Corporation in collaboration with banks at a cost of Rs.30 crore.
  • Allocation of Rs. 200 crore for the development and various programmes for the Christian Community.
  • Allocation of Rs. 10 crore for the construction of Samudaya Bhavan at Darul-Ulum Sabeel Ur Rashad, Arabic College campus, Bengaluru.
  • Various programmes for comprehensive development of Jain, Parsi and Sikh communities at a cost of Rs.80 crore.
  • Establishment of Diversity and Minority Study Chair at Bengaluru Central University (Central College).
  • Cash incentives for securing highest marks by students staying in minority hostels/residential schools and talent awards for the residential schools/colleges securing good results.
  • Implementation of Start-up Loan Facility scheme for women at a cost of Rs.15 crore through Minority Development Corporation.
  • Modernisation of Madarasas at a cost of Rs.15 crore for providing formal education and improvement of basic infrastructure.
  • Rs.20 crore will be provided to Corpus Fund of Karnataka State Wakf Parishat for taking up various development work during 2018-19.
  • Opening of 25 new Morarji Desai Residential Schools, 5 pre-matric Women Hostels, 2 Model Residential Schools, 25 student hostels, 10 working women hostels, 4 B.Ed. and D.Ed. English medium, girls Residential Colleges and Resource Centre.
  • Opening of student hostels/Model/Aadarsha school/Residential colleges at 25 places where own buildings are constructed under M.S.D.P plan.
  • Enhancement of admission strength of 25 post-matric hostels by 25 seats each. Mutual admission at all pre and post-matric girls hostels. 5 pre-matric boys hostels will be upgraded.
  • Commerce Department will be opened at 5 preuniversity colleges. The admission strength of 10 Morarji Desai Residential schools will be enhanced from 50 to 60.
  • Enhancement of family annual income limit to Rs.2.50 lakh for admission to residential schools.
  • Compensation to students of Minority hostels and residential schools/ colleges in case of accidents on the lines of KREIS.
  • Enhancement of monthly food charges by Rs.100 per student at all Government pre-matric, post-matric residential schools/colleges. Enhancement of monthly food charges from Rs.750 to Rs.800 at private aided orphanages/hostels.
  • Cash incentives to 2,000 students who secure highest marks in S.S.L.C. and II P.U.C examinations.
  • Under the Study Kit scheme, Rs.25,000 to all the students studying in first year in medical and technical courses.
  • Special cash incentives of Rs.25,000 to the students pursuing B.Ed. and D.Ed. courses.
  • Under Vidyasiri scheme, enhancement of number of beneficiaries to 25,000 from the year 2018-19.
  • Subsidy of Rs.2 crore to State level Nadaf/Pinjar Associations and a subsidy of Rs.2 crore to the Beary Welfare Association for educational and social development. A subsidy of Rs.3 crore to construct late Aziz Sait Memorial Samudaya Bhavan at Mysuru.
  • Enhancement of monthly training allowance for law graduates to Rs.5,000.
  • C.E.T. and NEET text books to P.U.C. students at Minority Welfare Department hostels.
  • Free pre-examination coaching in JEE, NEET to students seeking admission to higher education institutes.
  • Rs.15 crore for the protection and development of Wakf properties and highly sensitive Wakf properties falling under Indian Archaeological Survey and Karnataka Archaeological Survey.
  • Development programmes at a cost of Rs.800 crore for providing basic infrastructure facilities in the areas predominantly inhabited by the minorities.
