Karnataka BJP alleges phone tapping by Congress, writes to Governor
The ACB has registered cases against B S Yeddyurappa in a denotification case
The Karnataka BJP has accused the ruling Congress party of wiretapping and misusing its power to file fake cases on political rivals. In a letter written to the Karnataka governor, the state BJP unit has accused senior IPS officer M N Reddi and Political advisor to Home Minister Kempaiah of tapping BJP leaders' phone on the behest of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah.
"This is not only violation of rights of liberty and privacy but also contrary to the constitutional as well as statutory provisions in force," the letter reads. The BJP has accused the duo of colluding with the Congress and misusing legal provisions and abusing authority.
This BJP highlighted a complaint by one KAS office accusing Anti Corruption Bureau officials of threatening him to give false statements in a denotification case where he along with B S Yeddyurappa are accused. "This is a shocking misuse of ACB by the Chief Minister, who is incidentally heading the ACB. Therefore we request you in all fairness that your good office should intervene and conduct a thorough high-level inquiry by an independent agency," the BJP has demanded.
In a six-page letter to Governor, Vajubhai Vala, the BJP has accused the Congress of misusing agencies like the ACB to 'engineer' fake cases against political opponents and has sought his intervention. "The Governor of Karnataka is the custodian of the Constitution of India in the state. Liberty and fundamental rights are being compromised and false cases are being filed against the leaders of the opposition. We appeal to His Excellency to intervene into the matter and take all necessary action," BJP has urged.
The letter comes days after B S Yeddyurappa was booked in an alleged illegal denotification case. On Saturday, a KAS officer who is also an accused in the Rs 3,800 crore denotification case had written to the Governor claimed that he was being pressurised to testify against B S Yeddyurappa by ACB officials.
