Kalburgi Murder Case: 'Rudra Patil' came from Goa, shot dead in Belagavi?
Belagavi, Oct 30: The police are making some headway in the probe that has been launched to identify the body of a man found in Belagavi, which they believed was Rudra Patil's, an accused in the murder of Professor M M Kalburgi.
The police say that the man, whose body was found, had come to Belagavi with two others from Goa in a car and was shot dead.
Investigations show that the unidentified man along with two others from Goa had reached Belgavi on Oct 18. On reaching the Maniknagar cross in Khanapur, Belagavi, he was asked to get down from the car and was then shot in the neck and stomach.
Further the police have also learnt that the man was killed with a country made pistol and the cartridges obtained from near the body suggested the same.
The police will now exhume the body and obtain DNA samples.
The parents of Rudra Patil, who live in Belagavi, will be called in and their DNA samples too will be verified with the man whose body has been found.
When asked whether the man in question was Rudra Patil, the police stated that there is a lot that points towards that angle, but they cannot confirm anything as of now.
"What we know is that two persons from Goa, who had travelled with him, had shot him and dumped his body. We are trying to ascertain the motive behind the killing."
If the police are able to ascertain that the body is that of Rudra Patil, it would solve several cases.
Patil has been on the radar of both the Karnataka and Maharashtra police for the murders of Kalburgi, Narendra Dabholkar and also Govind Pansare.
Further he is also on the most wanted list of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for the Goa bomb blasts.
