Just 53 photos yet PM Narendra Modi has 7 million followers on Instagram

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the world's most followed leader on leading photo-sharing app Instagram. With a mere 53 posts on the app, Modi has managed to gain nearly 7 million followers. From the third position in 2016, PM Modi has just beaten US President Donald Trump and the Pope to emerge as the most followed world leader on Instagram.

A study conducted by global public relations firm Burson-Marsteller looked at the activity of the 325 Instagram accounts of heads of state and government, and foreign ministers over the past 12 months. With just 53 posts but the largest number of followers, the study also declared him as the most effective world leader on the photo-sharing app. The study states that each of his posts receives an average of 223,000 interactions.

Narendra Modi is trailed by Donald Trump with 6.3 million followers and Pope Francis with 3.7 million followers. "Leaders around the world are creating online communications that convey global social and political context while also sharing a sense of personality and creativity. Leaders of business and all other sectors can learn from governments' use of Instagram," said Don Baer, CEO of Burson-Marsteller.
