New Delhi, Sept 14: The centre today told the Supreme Court not to blame it for the appointment of judges to the higher judiciary.

Advancing arguments before a Bench headed by the Chief Justice of India, the attorney general said that there is no logjam in the appointment of high court judges.

Judges appointment: 'Don't blame us'

Further the AG said that the delays begin with the high courts and not the centre. Do not attribute the delays to us. The high courts have started to fill up the vacancies of 2007 now, the AG also told the Bench.

The Supreme Court observed that there should be no delay on the part of the executive after the names for the post judges are recommended. The AG explained that the names recommended for judges to the Allahabad, Kerala and Chattisgarh High Courts have already been cleared.

The AG said that there is no blame game or logjam in this issue. More recommendations made will be cleared in the next two week, the AG arguing for the centre assured the Bench. While telling the Supreme Court not to worry, the AG submitted to the court in a sealed cover the names of the persons whose names had been cleared. The matter will be come up for hearing next on September 30.

The court is hearing a petition which sought the appointment of judges to the high court. On the last date of hearing the CJI had warned the centre that there should be no delay in the appointments. The CJI further said that if the centre does not act, he would have to take judicial notice of the same.
