A police said that the soldier had been assaulted by local boys after it was alleged that he was involved in braid chopping. The cop, however, added that the soldier was not critical.
The Jammu and Kashmir police formed a special investigating team to probe braid-chopping incidents and announced a Rs 6-lakh reward for those providing information for nabbing the perpetrators.
About 40 cases of braid-chopping have been reported in Kashmir valley, with the victims mostly young girls or middle-aged women.
The police have urged people not to indulge in rumour mongering and said that incidents of braid chopping are not related to any propaganda. Not concrete evidence exists that these incidents are related to any propaganda. The Hurriyat however claims that this is the doing of the Intelligence Bureau in a bid to divert focus from the freedom movement.
