Jharkhand: Woman allegedly dies of starvation after being denied ration for 3 days
A 58-year-old woman died, allegedly of starvation, at Mangargarhi village in Jharkhand's Giridih district on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Savitri Devi, who, her family alleged, died due to the negligence of the authorities in providing them with a ration card. The family said that they didn't have food for last three days.
A district official said the ration card of the woman could not be made because of negligence on part of the authorities. "Action will be taken against the culprits," said Sheetal Prasad.
Savitri Devi's son claimed that even though his mother had been selected under a scheme for widows in 2014, she had not been receiving her pension for last three years.
Several people have died of alleged starvation in Jharkhand in the last few months.
