Daughter of a Jharkhand-based cycle mechanic to deliver speech on Child Marriage in US

Ranchi, Nov 6: Daughter of a cycle mechanic Tabbu Afroz, a 17-year-old girl in Jharkhand is all set to speak on child marriage in New York on Friday, Nov 7. She is ready to make India, proud of her fight against the social evil of child marriage.

According to a TOI report, Tabbu, who has been fighting against the social evil of child marriage, was selected by the international NGO 'Breakthrough' to deliver a speech at an event in New York.

Two years ago, Tabbu's elder sister was made to quit school to get married at the tender age of 17. But due to the prior awareness of the evil effects of child marriage, Tabbu convinced her parents to cancel her sister's marriage.

Initially, her parents did not listen to her and then she contacted her teachers who, with the help of some NGOs, succeeded in preventing her sister's marriage.

Since then, Tabbu has started to spread awareness among people to stop child marriages.

Like, the child rights activist Malala Yousafzai of Pakistan, Tabbu also advocates girls about the importance of education and career.

Presently, Tabbu, a resident of Muri town in Ranchi, is pursuing her graduation in Doranda College and her elder sister, who is now 19, is doing a computer course.

After two years, Tabbu's father Mohammad Ramzan is also a changed person, who now, is happy and proud with the fact that his daughters are now studying and will carve a better future for themselves after getting good jobs.
