J'khand: 14-year old tribal ordered to be raped by Panchayat as revenge

Bokaro, July 11: In yet another shocking report on the rising indices on sexual crime against women, a Panchayat in Bokaro ordered the raping of a 14 year-old girl to avenge her brother's misbehaviour with a female neighbour. Following this, a group of youngsters were instructed to rape his sister.

Police have arrested three of the accused and is interrogating them to know more about the incident. Bokaro SP, Jitendra Singh said," "Three people have been arrested and sent to jail. Legal procedure have been taken up. We are doing sort of a compensation to the victim. We have already done through investigation and don't expect more details to come."

DSP of Bokaro Manoj Rai said,"We are doing all that we can. We have captured the culprit. We will give him the necessary punishment. The reason for the crime is probably infighting within the community."

Condemning the incident, Mamata Sharma, the National Commission for Women said that the culprits should be brought to terms, given the fact that crimes against children is increasing by the day, especially because they are vulnerable.

"These regional panchayats which do injustice to women.. action should be taken in such matters. Inhuman things are happening this way. Why does not the district administrations create swareness amongst people of these things. They know it all," she further added.

This is however, not the first time that such an incident has happened. A 20-year old tribal woman from Birbhum was gangraped by 13 village men on the orders of the Panchayat.
