With the RJD having registered a thumping win over the JD (U) in Jokihat bypoll in Bihar, KC Tyagi on Thursday said it was due to high prices of petrol and diesel.

Tyagi, a senior JD (U) leader, said that there is an outrage across the country over high prices of petrol and diesel.

"Constant rise in the price of fuel is also a reason for such poll results. Therefore, hike should be immediately rolled back," Tyagi told ANI.

RJD's Shahnawaz won Jokihat bypoll by defeating JD (U)'s candidate Mohammed Murshid Alam by close to 30,000 votes.

By-elections in Jokihat was necessitated because of the resignation of Janata Dal United's Sarfaraz Alam from the Bihar Assembly. Sarfaraz also resigned from the JD(U) and joined Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) to be elected as a Member of Parliament from Araria following the death of his father and Araria MP Mohammed Taslimuddin. Jokihat is part of Araria Parliamentary constituency.

Lalu Prasad Yadav's son Tejashwi Yadav earlier today (May 31) said that the people of Bihar are continuing to avenge the u-turn taken by Nitish Kumar.

Speaking at the press conference, Yadav said,''I congratulate our workers and voters. This is a victory of Lalu-ism over opportunism. The JD(U) fielded a candidate who was facing rape and robbery charges. Nitish Kumar distributed 2 lakh swords on Ram Navami. The public has given him a resounding reply now.''
