Janardhana Reddy adopts baby elephant and 3 cubs at Bannerghatta

Former Karnataka Minister Gali Janardhana Reddy has adopted three tiger cubs and one baby elephant at Bannerghatta National Park in Bengaluru.

Last week when Reddy had visited the park along with family he had expressed his interest in adopting the animals. Again, Reddy visited the park on Thursday to complete the adoption formalities, say reports.

He has paid Rs 1,75,000 to adopt baby elephant and Rs 1 lakh each to one male cub-Shiva and two female cubs- Vaishnavi and Shambhavi. The adopted animals have been named according to the wishes of Reddy. The baby elephant has been named after his confidant and BSR Congress party leader from Bellary B. Sriramulu. The adoption is for a period of one year.

Adoption rate is in the range of Rs 1000 to Rs 1,75,000 for different species of animals housed in zoos of Zoo Authority of Karnataka. These adoption rates are in place from 2 February, 2012.

The mining-baron has joined the league of celebrities, especially, Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, MS Dhoni and Zaheer Khan, who have adopted animals at the Mysuru zoo.

Anil Kumble had renewed his adoption of a giraffe and a lion at the zoo.
