Srinagar, Dec 22: The People's Alliance for Gupkar Declaration (PAGD), an amalgam of seven political parties, has won over 56 seats while the BJP emerged as the single largest party winning 70 seats as of now.

The members of the Gupkar alliance welcomed the results of the DDC elections, stating that it's a verdict on the Centre's unconstitutional decision to abrogate Article 370. The Congress complimented the voters for their courage and resolve to "firmly reject the BJP and its misguided Kashmir policy".

The seven-party Gupkar alliance led by Farooq Abdullah was ahead in the seat tally in the maiden District Development Council polls in Jammu and Kashmir by winning or leading in 112 seats out of 280 on Tuesday, followed by the BJP which had won 52 seats, including three in the Kashmir valley for the first time, and was frontrunner in 18.

In Doda district, the BJP has so far bagged four seats, Congress two, while one seat went into the kitty of the NC. An independent also has won from a seat. The results of eight out of 14 seats have been declared so far.

Section 144 has been imposed by the administration in Doda to maintain the law and order situation. Three-tier security arrangements have been made to ensure free fair and smooth counting of votes. Counting agents of different political parties reached the centres.
