|

The Supreme Court sought to know why the centre had negated its judgment on Jallikattu. The question was posed by the Bench as the centre had come up with a notification allowing bulls to take part in the sport again.

The SC while hearing a petition seeking a ban on the popular Tamil Nadu sport said that the notification by the centre issued this year negates the SC decision which had banned the sport.

The centre however assured the Supreme Court there would be no suffering for the bulls during the sport. The centre said that there would be no hanging on to the horns of the bulls during the sport. Then what remains the Bench sought to know in a sarcastic tone.

The centre during the arguments said that the tradition cannot be stopped. We cannnot tell villagers to stop watching the sport and watch an F1 race. The Bench then shot back to ask, " do you think the bull comes back ecstatic after the event. The ban is on unecessary pain the Bench observed. Milking a cow also causes pain, but it is necessary pain. The shastras say you are entitled to 50 per cent milk the SC also observed. The plea has been adjourned to December 8.
